I am sorry that I hurt her feelings. I am also sorry that she is so difficult to appease; forgiveness comes very hard for her. Either of these, though for the sake of salvation or sanctification would not (I hope) be so troublesome to me.
More than anything else, my careless words were an offense to the holiness of God, and His call for me to be holy.
I Peter 1:13-16 13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."
It stemmed from my propensity to malign people:
Titis 3:1&2 1 Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, 2 to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men.
The content of my sin was course joking:
Ephesians 5:3&4 3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. 4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
So I say with the Psalmnist:
Psalm 51:4
4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge.
Have mercy on me Oh my God! Reveal in me any unclean way in me and lead me in the way everlasting. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen!
